I was so inspired when I read this on the news!
While most children his age sketch on paper with crayons, 9 year old Lim Ding Wen, who lives in Singapore, has a very different canvas — his iPhone.
Lim, who is in fourth grade, writes applications for Apple’s popular iPhone.
His latest, a painting program called Doodle Kids, has been downloaded over 4,000 times from Apple’s iTunes store in two weeks, the Singapore New Paper reports.
The program lets iPhone users draw with their fingers by touching the iPhone’s touchscreen and then clear the screen by shaking the phone. “I wrote the program for my younger sisters, who like to draw,” Lim said.
His sisters are aged 3 and 5. Lim himself is fluent in six programing languages, started using the computer at the age of 2.
He has since completed about 20 programing projects. WOW!
Lim isn’t the only young entrepreneur making money online with iPhone applications, there are many teens and youths of today just like himself.
And who says you cannot be like one of them?? All it takes is an idea. What do you secretly desire that your iphone can do?? Start from there!

There are many ways in which to induce a tranquil, relaxed state of mind, in which the body is still, and the conscious mind is simply placed aside for a while as the subconscious mind assumes a more dominant role, and allows the therapeutic cognitive processes which are innate in all of us to become active.
This state of mind, known as the hypnotic state is very simply created by;
- Focusing one’s attention.
- Relaxing the body.
- Allowing unnecessary thoughts to enter, then exit, without any rationalisation.
This process can be easily accomplished by the technique that follows. It is known as the “Eye Roll Technique’, and is a very old but powerful way of entering a safe therapeutic hypnotic trance.

When in this relaxed state of mind, it is possible to offer oneself any positive suggestions or affirmations in order to bring about the changes which you desire.
Examples of positive statements and affirmations are given further on.
THE TECHNIQUE.
If possible, find yourself a quiet place and either sit down or lie down comfortably. Roll up your eyes, just as if you were trying to look at your eyebrows. Allow your eyelids to slowly close, and as you do so, take in a deep breath and hold it.
As you slowly exhale, allow your upturned eyes to return to their normal position. As you finish exhaling, enjoy that gentle, floating sensation that you will experience.
At the same time, imagine your right hand to be very light, like it has a childs helium balloon tied to it making it rise gently. You may be surprised at the ease by which your hand and arm seem to float up by themselves. This floating hand signal is a signal from your subconscious mind that you are entering a state of deep relaxation.
As you remain in this deeply relaxed, hypnotic state of mind, offer yourself any positive, therapeutic suggestions which you feel will help to bring about the changes you really want or need.
Remain in this state for 10-20 minutes, that’s really all that’s needed.
You can repeat the process as many times a day as you like.
EXITING THE TRANCE STATE.
Roll up your eyes behind your closed eyelids. Very slowly, allow your eyelids to open, and the eyes to focus. Make a tight fist with your right hand, and as you do, allow this light floating hand to drift down into a comfortable position.
As it comes to rest, release the tight fist and gently stretch those fingers.……
FINISHED !!!!
If necessary, the exit from the trance state can be accomplished any time by going through the steps listed above. It may take you a little time to perfect the technique, especially if you are the ‘on the go all the time’ sort of person. Relaxation comes easier to some people than to others, so always bear this in mind.
Remember, if you want to make positive changes in your life, this relatively short use of your time can pay great dividends in the end.
The beauty of it is that once you have practiced and mastered the technique, you will be able to enter the relaxed state much more easily and deeply.
Another point to remember is that everyone is capable of entering into a hypnotic state. But just as we are all different, so is the ease with which we enter into a hypnotic trance.

Some will succeed on their first or second attempt, where as others may need many more attempts. It took me a week and a half, and about 15 attempts before I achieved a hypnotic state.
The motto is — PERSERVERE.
It may take time, but the rewards are well worth the effort.
I planned a party for my mom for her 70th birthday. After it was over, I realized how much she did not know about the planning I had done. I was able to recreate quite a bit for her scrapbook.
My dad and I actually began making plans a year in advance. I began her scrapbook with a calendar page from the year before. I then included photos and information from all of the banquet rooms we had considered.
The banquet room we ended up choosing was in a hotel, so we saved a postcard from the hotel along with a brochure of the hotel. We did hire an entertainer and so I included some information from his website to add to the scrapbook also.
When we compiled the guest list, I printed it out so she would know who we invited. I had asked for R.S.V.P.s through email and so I was able to print out all of the emails, both those saying they’d love to attend and those that were regrets.
Some of the regrets actually wrote personal messages to give to my mom. So, they were given to her at the party and then put into her scrapbook with the other messages. I also saved one of the invitations so she could see the invitation that went out to all of her friends.
Journaling can also be fun when planning a surprise party. For example, my mom did not want to go to the restaurant where the party was being held. We journaled about how we had to convince her that no one else could accommodate our family that night and how this place was the only one that served foods my sister could eat.
When we arrived, we did not want to walk through the parking garage, and so we led my mom around the side of the restaurant. She truly thought we were all nuts, not knowing where we were going. These are great things to journal as a remembrance of the event.
During the party, we had multiple people taking photos. We of course were the last guests to arrive and I wanted photos of other guests as they arrived and of the hor d’orves table.
And of course we wanted a photo of my mom walking in and being surprised. We did take pictures throughout the evening and had a lot to work with when we went to create her album. My mom was able to see the party from start to finish through our eyes.
Processed and refined grains, such as white bread, white rice, cereal, pasta, and other foods made with white flour have a high glycemic index, low amounts of fiber, and less vitamins and minerals as foods made with whole grains. Making the switch to whole grain foods, including whole wheat bread, whole grain pasta, brown rice, and cereals made with whole grains, are an easy and healthy way to make your family’s diet more nutritious.
2) Limit Soda and Fruit Drinks
Soda and fruit drinks have low nutritional value and a lot of calories. At about 150 calories per 12 ounce serving, your kids will gain an extra pound about every 3 weeks if they drink just one can of soda each day.
Cutting back or eliminating soda, fruit drinks, and even fruit juice, can be a good way to get rid of a lot of extra calories and leave room for your kids to eat more nutritious foods.
3) Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Most children don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables and that usually means that they are eating other less nutritious foods. With a high fiber content and lots of vitamins and minerals, fruits and vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet. And because they have lots of water in them, eating fruits and vegetables can help you to feel full and satisfied so that you don’t overeat.
4) Eat More Foods with Calcium
A common mistake people make when trying to lose weight is that they stop drinking milk, eating cheese and yogurt. Calcium is important to build healthy bones and to help you lose weight. You should encourage your kids to drink low-fat milk, eat portioned amounts of cheese and yogurt to help lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.
5) Be More Active
Everyone knows that part of the cause of the current obesity epidemic is that people are much less active then they used to be. Getting kids involved in organized activities, which can be either team or individual sports, and cutting back on the amount of time in front of the TV, computer and playing video games will burn calories and improve fitness levels.
Family activities are also a good way to be more physically active. Even simple things, like walking across a parking lot, using stairs, and going for short family walks or bike rides, can make a big difference.
6) Know Where Calories Come From
While you don’t necessarily need to do daily calorie counts, keep a diary of what your family eats for a few days can help you see where extra calories are coming from. Are your kids overweight because of the calories they get from a bedtime snack or those two glasses of Kool Aid or soda he drinks? Or maybe because his portion sizes are too large?
If you know where your kids’ calories are coming from, you will know where to make changes and how you can cut back, especially on foods that have a lot of empty calories.
7) Learn About Carbs
Carbs get a bad wrap, especially with all of the proponents of high protein diets, like the Atkins and South Beach Diet. Not all carbs are created equal. While it is a good idea to avoid foods that have refined such as white bread, foods made with white flour, and foods and beverages sweetened with sugar, other carbs should be part of a balanced diet.
Instead of avoiding all carbs, just learn about how to choose foods with ‘good’ carbohydrates, which includes fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grain foods.
Learn About Fats
Like carbs, there are ‘good’ and ‘bad’ fats. Instead of making the mistake of trying to stick to a low fat diet, and simply substituting other foods that are often just as high in calories, you should eat foods that have ‘good’ fat in them. This includes foods with polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. On the other hand, you should avoid saturated fats and trans fats.
9) Choose Healthy Meals when Eating Out
Even if your family eats healthy at home, if you eat super-sized fast food meals a few times a week, they are probably still at risk for becoming overweight. If you eat out a lot, review the nutritional facts of the restaurant’s menu and watch your portion sizes. Calories and fat quickly adds up when eating out!
10) Stay Motivated!
Most people know what they need to do to be healthier however, eating healthy and exercising is not easy. Education about the specifics of a healthy diet, getting the whole family involved, and setting goals, can help your family stay healthy and fit. Hire a personal trainer or seek the counsel of a dietitian to keep you on the healthy track.
If you want to know how to write poetry, the first thing you have to do is write some. It doesn’t matter how it turns out. Your own mistakes will become your teachers. Your own writing will motivate you to greater creativity.
Now, once you start the process, how do you improve it?
Here are 3 tips.
1. Use nouns and verbs more than adjectives. Which is stronger: “She was as beautiful as a flower…” or “Roses wilted in shame as she passed by…”? “He looked at the depressing clouds…” or “He watched as dark clouds moved in, covering his sky…”?
2. Don’t tell the reader how to feel. Let the words elicit the emotions directly, without explaining. “The tragedy touched them all,” is more touching to the reader as “Men and women, doctor and workman… thirteen people looked upon the scene… with tears in their eyes.”
3. Use dramatic and emotional words. Not all words are equal in their ability to “grab” a reader or elicit emotion. “Fell,” “take,” and “love,” will probably be weaker than “plunged,” “siezed,” and “worship.”
Look at the following lines, written two ways. The second way applies the three rules above. (From the poem “Gratitude.”)
1.
The mountains and lakes were beautiful
I looked at them, heard them and smelled them
And I felt in awe
2.
Mountains stand against the sky
My little lake at their feet
And in the middle of this creation
Which I see with my eyes
Hear with my ears
Smell and taste…
Words fail, as they should
I hope you agree that the second version is better.
Again, if you want to know how to write poetry, you have to start writing. Use these and other rules to help you, but remember that all rules in poetry need to be broken at times. Read your poems aloud to yourself and others as a final “test.”
