  • Generates heat and increases your level of energy by activating the energy flows in your body.
  • Syncronizes your entire system under one rhythm, thus promoting greater internal harmony and health.

Secondary:

  • Magnifies the benefits of exercises done in conjunction with this breath.
  • When done forcefully, the pulsating of the diaphragm massages the internal organs, thus improving the digestive system.

#291: Eliminate Stress By Doing Water Yoga

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

Eliminate Stress By Doing Water Yoga

Water yoga is low impact and gentle on the muscles and joints, making it perfect for the elderly, pregnant women and people with injuries or chronic conditions. Additionally, the buoyancy of the water cushions falls and makes certain postures, like handstands, safer than on land. With a little creativity, almost any land asana will translate to water. However, there are some poses that lend themselves to water already.

Floating Forward Bend

In shallow water, hold on to the edge of the pool and place the soles of the feet against the side of the pool, with your knees bent. Slowly straighten your legs and rest your torso on your thighs. Hold the pose for 10 seconds. Repeat three times.

Wall Cobra

Stand in chest-deep water approximately one foot from the edge of the pool. Lean forward until your navel touches the wall of the pool. Arch your back and hold the pose for 10 seconds. Repeat three times.

Floating Boat Pose

Float on your back in the shallow end of the pool. Engage your abs, point your toes and hinge at the hips so that your toes and head are both out of the water. Extend your arms toward your toes and hold the pose for 10 seconds. Repeat three times.

Floating Half Bow Pose

Float on your back in the shallow end of the pool. Extend your right arm overhead and bend your left leg into the water. Grab your left ankle with your left hand, engage your abs and open your chest. If you begin to roll to the right, extend your right arm sideways to stabilize. Hold the pose for 10 seconds and alternate to the other leg. Repeat three times on each leg.

#275: Ways to Overcome Christmas Stress

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Ways to Overcome Christmas Stress

Reducing Christmas anxiety and stress can be as simple as taking a walk and sipping hot chocolate, or as complicated as creating a schedule for your family, to make your holidays happy.

1. Get specific and practical about Christmas anxieties. Figure out exactly what you’re stressed about at Christmas, and deal with it. For example, if you’re worried about money, then do a gift exchange and draw names in your family. Or, research inexpensive, easy homemade gifts (eg, jars of dry cookie mix or a card detailing exactly what you and others love and appreciate about someone). Consider Christmas gift shopping online, but do it early! If you’re worried about your diet and exercise levels, schedule specific times to exercise – and stick with your plan. Deal with your stress in practical ways, and remember that holiday anxiety increases when you feel like you have no control.

2. Ask for help to reduce holiday anxiety. If you’re cooking Christmas dinner for the family and are filled with holiday anxiety, ask for help from your friends and family. If you don’t know what gifts to give to family and friends, ask for suggestions. If you’re worried that your uncle will get drunk and mean, contact a counselor or family member for practical ways to prevent or alleviate the situation. Ending holiday anxiety involves reaching out to others, especially over the Christmas season. Holiday stress and Christmas anxiety will be easier to overcome when you don’t feel like you’re in it alone.

3. Accept imperfections to overcome stress. The family will fight, the gifts will disappoint, the dog will knock down the tree, and the turkey will be dry. It’s inevitable that some troubles will arise during the holiday season; going with the flow and accepting the flaws as part of life is key to overcoming Christmas stress. Holiday season anxiety – and many types of stress – comes from unrealistic expectations. When you accept the imperfections, you’ll reduce holiday anxiety because you’ll have realistic goals and expectations.

4. Treat yourself well over the holiday season. Pamper yourself with a massage, pedicure, manicure or day spa (but book it early!). Work up a sweat by skating, snowshoeing or exercising at the gym – physical activity is one of the best ways to reduce holiday season anxiety. Express your feelings to a friend, in your journal, or with music. Get enough sleep. Go to a movie in the middle of the day. Indulge in some chocolate or holiday baking, but don’t overindulge.

#263: Recycling Old Light Bulbs

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

Recycling Old Light Bulbs

For domestic, commercial and decorative purposes, incandescent lamps have been used. Some are used to make simple home appliances function and provide light such as flashlights, vehicle headlights, table lamps and others. After using them, where do you think should they go? Not on sanitary landfills because here are ways to give them a new lease of life.

  1. Christmas Ornaments- Turn your old light bulbs into colorful Christmas ornaments. Add some decorations and paint them with bright colors. Hang them in your Christmas tree. They will play the best of Christmas trend instead of buying expensive Christmas balls.
  2. Growing Pots- Like the picture shown, your old light bulbs can be turned into a beautiful mini-pot. You can grow small plants using your “bulb-pot” and put them in your table. Creativity is required and applied only once but your finished product may last for years.
  3. Wall Decorations- Aside from table decoration, you can make a beautiful wall decoration out of old light bulbs. It may look weird but the spirit of art is more appreciated most. You can surf in the Internet for designs.
  4. Salt and Pepper Shakers- It is possible to transform your old light bulbs into a salt and pepper shaker. All you have to do is to clean them with caution. For cleaning procedures, you can refer to your own Internet source to avoid chemical contamination.

Light bulbs are delicate to handle. When you plan to recycle them, you can ask for proper cleaning and recycling procedures to avoid accidents at home. #261: How to Drive Loneliness Away

Friday, October 21st, 2011

How to Drive Loneliness Away

How will you respond when a loneliness-triggering event occurs in your life? There are only two things you can do. You can allow the event to seize control over your life, or you can remain in control. If you choose to succumb to loneliness and wallow in self-pity, your negative attitude will drive others away, isolating you, and thereby beginning the dangerous downward spiral that can lead to chronic loneliness. If you are imprisoned today in the cell of loneliness, it’s time to pull yourself out!

1.       Make yourself your own best friend

Learn to like yourself. Do it in a different way by liking the good things you can actually do. Most people cannot see the friend inside themselves because they see themselves unable on things ignoring the things they can actually do.

2.       Love helping others

It is by concentrating the pain of others that you will forget your own sorrow and eventually heal yourself. People who are too lonely are the ones concentrating on their sufferings and ignoring others. Why not reach out for others? This is the only way where recovery is very fast.

3.       Take some responsibilities

By doing some responsibilities, you will forget loneliness. People with nothing to do and worry are the ones prone to boredom and loneliness. Take actions to carry small responsibilities to enhance your mood every day.

4.       Make a diary

Sounds classic but making a diary is another way to drive out loneliness. It is by writing that you will erase boring moments and remember those happy memories or deeds you have encountered the other day or those things you need to remember today.

5.       Join groups

Do not isolate yourself from others. It may take time for you to adjust but you have to be a part of a group where your confidence is best exercised. Your peer group will be your shock absorber if loneliness will bring your spirit down.

6.       Think positive

Most cases of loneliness in your life are all due to thinking negatively on things you do not understand. Even if failure hinders your goal in life, always think positive. Is there any other thing greater than positive thinking?

#218: On for Living Life Simply—take away Stress

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

On for Living Life Simply—take away Stress

“To carry out longevity, you must avoid stress…” according to George F. Burns. Stress is the most friendly thing you could get everyday. It won’t leave you even if you want. From unhealthy lifestyle, stressful job, chaotic everyday life, bad habits and others, stress will always bring you down.

To release yourself from stress even if not that much, here are some rehauling ideas you can apply.

  1. One thing at a time- Do things accordingly one at a time. Avoid doing them on rush hours. Make a plan.
  2. Schedules should be simplified- To reduce hectic schedules, eliminate too much commitments. Focus on first things first.
  3. Get moving- Try to have a walk, play some sports and yoga. Have fun doing it.
  4. One healthy habit each month- Again one habit at a time. Include in your diet the presence of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water.
  5. Do something calming- Think of activities that would calm you down like listening music, taking a nap, meditating or even having sex.
  6. Make a balance computation on your finance- Simplify financial flow accordingly by spending less and avoiding debts.
  7. Congratulate yourself-Reward yourself for some great accomplishments. Have a dinner outside your home, watch a movie or stroll at the lakeside.
  8. Practice creativity- Making your favorite recipe or simply collecting and preserving your family’s old picture will do. Stamp collecting might get you relaxed.
  9. Maintain a positive body clock- Sleep early so you could rise early for your daily activities.
  10. Get psychological advice-Go to your nearest guidance counselor not for consultation but to ask more ideas on how to maintain a healthy psychological activity.
  11. Declutter- Pracice living in a well-organized and clean environment. Clutter will create stress too.

So there you go. These may not take effect immediately but things will reduce and even dissolve stress if you do it with personal discipline.

#199: Try out yoga on a paddle board on water! (cool!)

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

I love yoga, it’s similar to tai chi, and improves you flexibility and balance. What you do is not important. How you do what you do, is important! Yoga also means union. What union? Whether union between the body and the mind? Or the mind with the spirit? The traditionally accepted belief (or truth, depending upon the level of your spiritual progression) is the union between the Jeevatman and the Paramatman- between one’s individual consciousness and the universal consciousness.

Yoga is intensely linked to breathing. It is about channeling the energy through breath. Another intimate alley of yoga is meditation.

You can not think of yoga without understanding at least some of the basic techniques of meditation! Spiritual appreciation as to the nature of the human body, who controls it all of the time, is absolutely essential for proper understanding of various practices that make the science of yoga.

Have you tried out yoga on a paddle board? It’s beautiful!

#196: Living a zen lifestyle and picking up zen habits!

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Relaxation music

How many of us walk through life wondering what our
purpose is? How many of us look in a mirror and wonder who
we are and what we want out of life? Why is it that we do
so? How many times have you said, “I would like to
purchase that” or “I want to go there.” But who is “I”? Do
you really know yourself? Zen is the process of knowing
who you truly are. This is generally done by living the
right way and practicing your meditation. When you live a
Zen lifestyle, you can achieve happiness and contentment.

1) Importance

We rush, day to day, to do the things that need to be
done. Little Johnny needs to get to soccer practice, Susan
needs to get to dance, the report needs to be on your
boss’ desk by 10 a.m., you need to make lunches, get
dinner, etc. We get to the point in which we are extremely
burned out and are ready to pull someone’s hair out. This
type of stress can age you quickly.

One of the first things you should do is figure out what
is important in your life. What do you want to be doing
with your time? Don’t just think about it; write it down.
Write down four to five things that you want to accomplish
with your life, as well as four to five things you want to
get done at your job. Also, put down four to five people
with whom you truly want to spend time. This should give
you an idea of what is really important to you.

Next, figure out if you truly need all the commitments you
have going. Do your children really need to have three
after-school activities per day? Do you need to take on
more things when you’re already very busy? You need to
prioritize your life by choosing the things that are
really necessary in your life. Instead of doing eight
things a day, do three. Take the things out of your life
that you don’t need to do so that you can focus more on
the things that you do need to do.

2) Slow Down

One of the best ways to live a Zen lifestyle is to “stop
and smell the roses.” Before I had children, I rushed
through my everyday tasks and landed in a heap on the
couch shortly before 11 p.m. Then I had children and truly
learned the meaning of the word “multi-tasking.” One day
my three-year-old stopped me and pointed out a little
caterpillar on the road. I’d almost stepped on it! I was
moving so fast to get to my destination that I forgot to
look around at where I was going.

Don’t we all rush around without noticing our
surroundings? We take for granted the area in which we
live. Whether you’re in the city or in the country, there
is always something to see. Try slowing down when you
brush your teeth, or when you’re cooking supper. When you
take things at a slower pace, you can find true enjoyment
in every task.

3. One Thing at a Time

As I said, once I had children, “Multi-task” became my
middle name. I was able to cook supper, prepare my
husband’s lunch, make the morning coffee, and watch the
kids—all at the same time. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely not.

There was no part of those tasks that was enjoyable to me,
and I got to the point that I hated doing it. Instead of
multitasking, try “single-tasking. Do one thing at a time
and do it well. When you’re making your sandwich for the
next day, make an amazing sandwich. Add pickles and other
vegetables and make it a truly amazing sandwich. Not only
will you slow down, but you will have a wonderful sandwich
to enjoy the next day.

4. Solitude

A big part of the Zen lifestyle involves learning how to
live with solitude. Some people are scared of the quiet
and being alone, but there is nothing to be scared of. The
quiet and solitude can give you time to meditate about
your day and about your life. Even if you choose to sit
back and quietly enjoy a book, the silence gives your
brain time to work through everything that has occurred
since the last moments you had in silence.

Living a Zen lifestyle is about minimizing the things you
don’t need and maximizing the things that are important.
In doing this, you can achieve peacefulness and a sense of
self.

#97: Watch an amazing movie: Eat, Pray, Love!

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I just finish up reading a good book that I would buy more to give it away! :)

Eat, Pray, Love is an autobiographical story of Elizabeth Gilbert’s journey of self-discovery. It is a story that shares much of the structure of a romantic novel, but which combines the author’s personal journey with her search for a deeper meaning.

=> Get Eat Pray Love DVD here!

eat pray love DVD!

She achieves this by visiting three very different countries in a single year in order to learn how to eat pray love.

Eat Pray Love is a story that will appeal to anyone who has ever dreamed of leaving it all behind and traveling the world. It is a book that has a lot to say about the modern world, and particularly about the pressures that are placed specifically upon women. Many women strive to have a career, a husband and children, but find that there is something lacking from their lives.

=> Join our facebook fanpage for more good stories, inspiring movies and cool dramas!

Dissatisfied with her life as a successful thirty-something, with a husband and a career, Elizabeth sets off on a journey that will allow her to explore herself and learn more about what she wants from life.

Her journey will be a combination of pleasure and prayer, allowing her to experience the simple pleasures of life and to find a more spiritual side to her existence.

Book!

Buy the book here!

She begins her search in Italy, where she relaxes and begins to feel happy again. She indulges in food and wine, and spends her time enjoying herself. The next stop on Elizabeth’s journey is India, where she spends some time in an ashram, living a more austere lifestyle and learning how to pray. (Read an article here to learn how you can make your prayers 10X stronger!)

The journey ends in Bali. Here, Elizabeth attempts to balance the earthly with the divine, and to find a way to live with both pleasure and prayer. It is in Bali that she finds love, after spending a year focusing solely on herself, she is ready to open up to another person again.

Elizabeth Gilbert has written a very personal book that is full of her own struggles, failures and successes. This book does not claim to have all the answers to be written by a guru who can help others.

It is a book about the journey of one woman to discover her own self, and it is, therefore, a story about all the difficulties that one will encounter on such a journey. Elizabeth Gilbert also manages to discuss in a clear and readable manner many of the philosophical and metaphysical discoveries that she made along the way.

In Eat Pray Love, she has exposed herself and all that she has experienced in a very honest, but enjoyable, way.

If you like good stories, inspiring movies and dramas, join our facebook fan page today and make connections with us! :-)
